MATTHEW TAPSON COLOURIST

It was a great accomplishment for me to grade and finish both seasons of Showmax's highly regarded action thriller series, Lioness. in 2021 and 2022. Lioness was nominated for multiple SAFTAs in 2024 including best TV Drama and Best Achievement in Cinematography in a  TV Drama.

My role in Lioness began in pre-production with the design of on-set LUTs for DP Bradley Devine. As the story was told in 2 different time periods, 8 years apart, we worked on very distinct looks for the past and the present.

As the offline editing progressed, we established a workflow system for the large number of VFX and online work that needed to be done across the series. I choose to work with ACES as my colour management system which absolutely guarantees that the camera colour science is respected through the roundtrip process.

My responsibilities then included conforming the projects, pre-QCing the episodes and flagging cleanups that may have been overlooked in edit, pulling all VFX and online shots for the artists and then grading and delivering the episodes.

Working with talented team members is a huge privilege and the vision and professionalism of the DP, along with the incredible support system of an extremely experienced post supervisor made the process of grading and finishing Lioness a very key milestone in my grading career.
